This romantic-looking painting is not what it seems to be. It depicts the fragile relationship between man and nature. Amidst flowers as symbols of both bloom and transience, a beautiful lady has a tiny bird on her finger. It is connected to her and held in place by thin threads. The story the painting tells is about the fragility and vulnerability of nature…and about freedom versus no-freedom. Birds can fly, they can escape the Earth. This makes birds a symbol of freedom. But this little bird is tied up. Humans have a hold on nature.
