In my painting Le Message, the bird plays the leading role. It is a bee-eater, which, because of its bright colors, was thought to be able to rise high into the sky, even as far as the sun. As they can move between heaven and earth, birds have been considered the messengers between the gods and humans in most cultures. They can leave the material world to communicate with the immaterial reality. Conversely, they move with the greatest ease from the outer world of the senses to the inner universe, from conscious to unconscious.
The image of the bird in flight symbolizes our capacity for transcendence, our ascending spirit. The bird, as communicator, delivers messages from heaven, good or bad, wanted or unwanted.
The messages from the other world come to us on wings. In Le Message, I leave in the middle what the bird has to say.
